Sam Gruneisen

Sam officiated in the Fall Cities Football Officials Association and in the KFOA for twenty three years from 1944-1966. Same was known as one of the best officials of the time. Sam's was very conscientious about his appearance on the field and his mechanical knowledge and rules application. His dedication to the FCFOA and the KFOA was surpased by none and would help in any capacity he could. He was a mentor for young officials, working with the on and off the field. After his retirement, he became the clock operator at Manual Stadium, a job he held until his unfortunate death.

His dedication to the profession is why the KFOA named our most coveted award for his name sake. The Sam Gruneisen Award is currently presented annually to the one KFOA Class C member who best exemplifies the spirit and character of Sam Gruneisen, and the personal attributes that made Sam a great offcial.

Member is deceased and was added post humously.
