About Us

For nearly fifty years, the Kentuckiana Football Officials Association has provided football officials for high schools located in Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham, Spencer, Henry, and Shelby counties. We also provide football officials to many of the youth leagues located in those counties, and we have enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA) in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

The KFOA was formed at the end of the 1967 season when the Fall Cities Football Officials Association and the Metropolitan Football Officials Association merged. Over the years, men from varying backgrounds but with a passion for football have been members of our Association. We are proud to be recognized as one of the best local football official's associations in the nation by Referee Magazine. Many of our members / alumni have furthered their officiating careers in numerous FBS, FCS, D-II, D-III, and NAIA collegiate football conferences. Our training program and dedication to the sport of football have help launch the careers of four outstanding officials, who have gone on to officiate in the NFL and worked a Super Bowl assignment.

Our season typically begins in the early summer with a recruitment effort for new officials. Those first year officials begin an intense ten week training program that involves classroom and on-the-field training. First year officials typically find themselves on the youth league fields as early as August. The General Membership meetings typically begin at the end of July. The season culminates in late fall with high school playoffs and Championships, middle school and youth playoffs and championships, and the CSAA Toy Bowl. Finally, after the holidays the KFOA hosts a Hall of Fame & Awards banquet.

You can reap as much reward from being a football official as you put into it. There's a lot of hard work, a tremendous amount of time and rules study, but the personal challenges you will face are nothing compared to the satisfaction you will receive in becoming a good football official. If you have a passion for the sport, if you enjoy challenging yourself to new limits, and if you are willing to work hard, we may be just the group of new friends you are looking for.
